Ice massage for acute pain

by Bernie Preston

For acute pain, ice is better than heat, or a mixture of the two, first ice, then followed by moist heat.

Take a polystyrene or paper cup, fill with water, freeze and then tear away the rim leaving the ice exposed. Perfect for a painful knee or back, direct ice massage. Perhaps follow with a hot shower.

My pain relief tip is plain ICE.

by Barrie
(Chiropractic-Help.com)

For musculo-skeletal pain, plain ice is my most beneficial and effective pain relief tip. And UNlike so many painkillers it has absolutely no side-effects. It won't give you an ulcer, nor will you have a stroke, or go into kidney failure.

What's more, it's more effective than brufin for example.

For an ice-massage, fill a poystyrene cup with water, and put it in the deepfreeze. When frozen, tear a strip from around the lip of the cup so the ice sits proud. Apply alternating ice and heat (say in the shower) to the offending joint or muscle.

A pack of frozen peas works too, of course, but these gel-packs are a lot less messy. Wrap it in a tea-towel so you don't get frostbite.

Cytle Myristoliate
by: Cindy

Yes. Ice is under-valued in pain relief... But it is so cold! Cytle Myristoliate is a natural fatty acid that works on the root of inflammation.

Here is what WebMd reports about it..."How does it work?
Cetylated fatty acids might help lubricate joints and muscles, soften tissues, and increase flexibility. It also might help the immune system and reduce inflammation (swelling)."

Ice For Pain
by: Cindy

Berrie, I agree with you. The pain reliefing power of ice does work. It is affordable (almost free), natural and has no adverse side effects. When we learn to do what we can FIRST and take a pill SECOND, our comfort and our pocketbook will be healthier.

Thanks for the reminder. ICE WORKS.
