Dangers In Your Morning Shower
Do you enjoy a good, relaxing, warm, morning shower every day?
If you do, here is something you should know.
"A long, hot shower can be dangerous. The toxic chemicals are inhaled in high concentrations." J Andelman, Ph. D.
"We conclude that skin absorption of contaminants in drinking water has been underestimated and that ingestion may not constitute the sole or even primary route of exposure."
-American Journal of Public Health, May, 1984, Vol. 74, No. 5
The harmful effects of chlorine are well established. Ingestion of chlorine is linked to
Asthma, Bronchitis and Other Respiratory Conditions
- Dry Brittle Hair
- Dry, Flaking, Itching Skin
- Eye Irritations
- Even Cancer, Heart Disease and Stroke
Your morning shower probably contains more chlorine than all the tap water you drink all day long.
Chlorine is a toxic chemical.
It is cheap and effective in killing bacteria and viruses found in water. Problem is, it is harmful to our body's defense system as well.
The other health consideration you may not have thought about is the amount of chlorine you breathe in while taking that morning shower. Chlorine vaporizes at relatively low temperatures, and the lungs absorb all that from the air from your shower.
We have long been aware that drinking chlorinated water is bad for your health, but have you considered the harmful effects of absorbing and breathing it while showering?
"The National Academy of Sciences estimates that 200 to 1000 people die in the United States each year from cancers caused by ingesting the contaminants in water. The major health threat posed by these pollutants is far more likely to be from their inhalation as air pollutants. The reason that emissions are high is because water droplets dispersed by the shower head have a larger surface-to-value ratio than water streaming into the bath."
- Science News-Vol. 130, Janet Raloff
Your skin is the largest organ of the body.
It absorbs things... like water, oils, creams. When chlorine is mixed with the water we bath in, our skin absorb it, along with all other chemicals it may contain as well. Simply drinking bottled water will not protect you from the harmful effects of toxic water. You've got to filter the water you bath in as well.
How can you do that?
There are many whole-house water filtration systems on the market. You can pay anywhere between $500 to $5,000. They are generally hard to install and require a professional plumber.
Are they worth it? That is for you to decide.
Another way is to install a clean showerhead filter to your shower. They are relatively inexpensive, right around $100.00 in most cases. And the benefits are tremendous.
- Softer skin
- Better health
